20 Paraben Free and Organic Skincare Brands You Fall in Love With

(Last Updated On: August 3, 2018)

How many skin care products do you slather on your face and body daily? If you’re like most people, the answer is probably several. But do you know exactly what is going into your body? About 60% of what we apply to the skin is absorbed into the body, and our systems are exposed to potentially harmful chemicals. These ingredients can be toxic, they can affect our immune systems and can remain in our bodies for years!

Natural ingredients are a safer alternative, though remember, natural does not mean that they will suit you, and some ingredients can cause a reaction. The purest and beneficial ingredients go through much less processing and come from organic plants. It can be a minefield, as there are so many products to choose from, but by knowing a bit about ingredients, and how to spot potentially harmful ones can lead to you making much better choices for your skin and your health.

What to look for in skin care products

Choosing natural skin care can be confusing, but it doesn’t have to be! Just stick to these rules:

Feed the skin the same way you would feed your body

Approach skincare the same way you would your diet. Healthy food should be fresh and should have gone through the least amount of processing possible. Take the same approach to skin care. If you can’t pronounce ingredients on the label, the chances are it is full of chemical nasties that your body is not going to like! Products with a long shelf life are probably full of preservatives.

Choose simple products

A long list of ingredients means that each ingredient isn’t in the product in large proportions, which means that it won’t be as effective. Stick to products with a few key tried and tested ingredients.

The problem with Parabens

One such preservative you don’t want to expose your body to are parabens. They extend a product’s shelf life and prevent bacteria growth, but they have been linked to organ toxicity, reproductive and fertility problems, and tumours.

Parabens have been used since the 1950’s and they are quite cheap and effective. The most commonly used parabens are methylparaben, propylparaben and butylparaben. Parabens mimic oestrogen in the body, and oestrogen is a factor in the development of breast cancer.

Final thoughts

Today’s consumers are more concerned about their health and the environment overall. They try to eat healthily, they exercise, they detox and juice, so why would they put a whole host of chemical nasties on their skin?

They don’t want to use products that are harming their health and harming the environment. Instead, they want to harness the power of the natural world to give them healthy, glowing skin. And it doesn’t need to come with a hefty price tag. Healthy skin care should be affordable for everyone and this is what some of today’s organic skin care brands are striving to achieve.

Pure, natural ingredients work in synergy with us, rather that overloading our systems with toxins which are hard enough to avoid in today’s world. That’s not to say that they might not cause a reaction, and natural does not always mean safe. But in the main, the more we avoid unpronounceable ingredients, the better. Essential oils, botanicals, and herbs; all derived from planet earth, all designed to nourish and protect us, and they’re much kinder to skin that anything that’s made in a laboratory.
